Playing Tourists For The Day

Nothing like being thrown into meeting when we get here...for being 12 hours off of the time we are use to, I think we have adjusted well! The meeting was in Nepali, both Tom and Liz answered and Nepali flowed out of their mouth, amazing! Even though we couldn't understand the majority of people, we still felt the same brotherly love that we would get all the way back home....and we got to wear Kurta's, which means PANTS TO MEETING, hehe YES!

One form of transportation

Pagan worship is everywhere here, Buddhist and Hindu temples are seemingly around every corner.  So we played tourist for the day and toured the city, and watched people as they throw all their faith and hope in to prayer wheels and statues. This is real, people actually believe in this.

That looks painfully heavy for the neck

The Holy Men

The picture below is of Pashpathinath.  This is where cremations are done...body's are literally being burned in the open with an audience around them.  On the left corner of the picture, after many people sprinkle the "holy" water on the body (taken from the trash filled river below) the husband of the women catches her on fire.  This otherwise graphic scene (that felt like I was watching a movie) is very real to these people, this is how they live their life, and it breaks my heart.

  1. Thanks so much for keeping us up to date. You all look fab, so crazy to see you together, yet you are sooooo far away. It is really quite fun to see what you all are up to.

  2. Very, very interesting! What an amazing experience you are having! The depth of some of these traditions will be an experience you never forget. You are a very strong lady to be able to witness such ways and feel compassion instead of judgement. Love ya!
