It seemed as if history was found around ever street corner, alleyway, and building in Bhacktapur...one of the oldest cities of Nepal. After about an hour bus ride away from Kathmandu I felt as if I lived 100 years ago. Women still retrieving water from a well, using bicycles to go from one place to another, and drying their freshly harvested wheat in the sun...
Bhacktapur is known for their creatively thrown and "fired" pottery. I couldn't say no when the older man behind me in the picture below invited me to throw on his old wooden wheel. It was powered by turning it quickly with a stick before hand...instead of a firing the pieces with a kiln they let it dry in the sun then bury them in a pile of hot ashes and sand for four days until the pieces are complete, ready to sell.
